I almost titled this feature 'No place
like home'... this summer Jerry and I traveled to the east coast and back, saw lots of great
places, but no where even remotely compared to our beautiful Southern Oregon Coast... it
sure is great to be back home!
Jerry and I celebrated our homecoming by
traveling to several of our favorite Port Orford area locations, in this feature
we post some of the better images from our excursions. First stop is at
Cape Blanco State Park, home of the Cape Blanco Lighthouse and Historic
Hughes House.
Our first set of images feature different views
of the Cape Blanco Lighthouse. The lighthouse recently underwent a major
renovation which included new paint, new lense roof and flashing, lense
refurbishing, and more. The photo on the right shows how the lense room
looks now after the renovation, you can also see a guide conducting a tour.
The lighthouse tours are now closed during the winter.
The old Coast Guard barracks were also
demolished and removed, compare the first image below to
Past Oregon Pics features and you'll see how
removing the old structure has improved the view.

After visiting the lighthouse we then stopped
at an overlook of the Hughes House where we shot this next set of images.
The Sixes River outlet was blocked by the dunes, this caused the river to
overflow it's banks and flood the valley.

Later this day we took a late afternoon walk on
a low tide Battle Rock Beach. Below are a few of my better pics from this
beautiful day.

Below are pics of some surfers working the
waves at Hubbard's Creek Beach. Humbug Mountain can be seen looming in the
background.

We finish our 'No place like home' feature with
a few pics of my boxer Jerry Lee on Battle Rock beach.

Below are photos from my summer visit to the
Crazy Horse mountain carving. The first image shows a 1/34th scale model
of how the carving will look when completed (the actual carving is seen in the
background). The Crazy Horse Memorial is a huge undertaking, all of the
Mount Rushmore carvings could fit in the area set aside for the Crazy Horse face
and flowing hair carving.
